Tomatosphere Update

I just wanted to let everyone know our “Space Tomatoes” have mostly germinated. We have a few that are lagging behind, and unfortunately the girls left the trays down on the desk long enough for one of our mischief makers to decapitate about three of the sprouts. I doubt those ones will come to anything, but I’ve left them anyway – at least as a reminder that they germinated.

We’ve got a long way to go before these plants even slightly resemble the tomato plants I’m used to buying at the nursery, but I’m keeping the faith! My mother-in-law grows her tomatoes from seeds. She has a lovely balcony garden every summer, and has added bell peppers in the last few years. Hopefully we have a little bit of her “magic touch!”

We’ve had issues with uploading our pics to the computer the last while, so I’m afraid I can’t share any photos at the moment. Once we figure out what the problem is, I hope I can add photos of our wee tomato sprouts for you to see. In the meantime, you can read more about Tomatosphere in this post.

  1. Yay! Ours have germinated too! I am so excited that we actually got this far this year!

  2. I’m glad yours are coming up too! Did they all germinate? I still have a few not up, but don’t yet know whether it is because the kids poked them down too far or because the seeds really aren’t going to grow.

We have some sunflower seeds to plant, too. My Mom sent us these pots to use. They’re not peat pots, but similar. I can’t remember now what they’re made out of but you can see the fibres in them. I think I may wait until it’s a little warmer, though. I seem to recall sunflowers quickly reach the point at which they want to be outside & have a good, sturdy stake!
