Ruby

RubyRuby is a wife and mother to 4 kids, 2 of whom she is currently homeschooling full-time. This is our first year of official home education, though hubby and I firmly believe we have been teaching our kids since they’ve joined us on the earth. We’ll always be helping them learn - and learning from them too!

For those who are interested in these things, we began our year with the better part of an Ambleside Online program. We use mostly Miquon for math, and Simply Grammar and Jolly Phonics for language arts. Through the first session we’ve discovered that a lot of the readings don’t suit us, and we’re looking into replacements from Miss Maggie’s Old-Fashioned Education. We’ve also learned that we lean a fair bit towards unschooling.

About Me:

Ruby holds an AEC in gerontology, and worked for 8 years in Canada’s last chronic care facility for war veterans. She has also logged countless hours of service with special needs children and senior citizens, in the local university community, in adult literacy and primary school library work, and through Girl Guides. She is currently a Lones Adviser with Girl Guides of Canada, helping girls who can’t attend regular meetings stay active in Guiding.

When she is not with her kids or glued to the computer, Ruby enjoys reading speculative fiction and mysteries. Every now and again she likes to cook for the fun of it - not just because it has to get done. She is a (very new) student of Ju-Jutsu, and has developed a recent fascination with genealogical research.
