I would like to get in touch with anonymous with the 11 year old gifted son. I have a 13 year old - very similar story with the school. I am not in touch with Child Protective Services, but the school is behaving in a similar fashion, and I am ready to home/free/un school him at this point since they have not addressed his special needs and he is behaving accordingly - and they tested him in grade 2. Can you help me network with this parent?

Hello,

I would like to learn how to identify birds in grasslands or prairies by their song. Can you recommend a good CD or CD-Rom that focuses mainly on the grasslands?

Thank you!

Comment on Dental Fees for Kids? by ruby3881

Glenn,

This is a familiar story. It seems dental work is rather temporary, and sometimes it results in a whole chain of later complications. It's bad enough that private insurance plans usually put a cap (no pun intended) on how much work can be done over a specific period of time.

What adds insult to injury is that dentists don't seem to have to warranty their work in any way. If something goes wrong, even within mere weeks of a treatment, they just charge more for a follow up or patients end up seeking out another dentist to fix shoddy work - again, paying it out of their own pockets.

The other thing that really has me wondering is that the Medicare plan here in Quebec covers curative treatments like fillings and extraction, but no preventative measures are covered. Children under 10 only get selected services free. These do include x-rays, but they don't include cleaning, fluoride treatments or the services of a hygienist at the dentist's office (you can see one free at the CLSC, but there's no dentist there....)

With so much focus placed on fixing things after the fact, it's no wonder everybody is arguing about money. It seems to me that placing the emphasis on prevention in the first place might be less costly for society as a whole, and could save a lot of children the pain of the dentist's drill....

My kids are lucky to have a really wonderful dentist who has a magic touch. They have no stress at all about going to the dentist; in fact they look forward to seeing her. But it's not every kid who has that kind of luck :(

Cheers & thanks for dropping by!
Ruby

PS I'd love it if you'd stop by my new digs at http://canhomeschool/freehold/ !

HI,
Your article states exactly what needs to be done.
I live in Las Vegas Nevada. Recently I needed a root canal
that I had four years ago redone because I was getting
pain. I was in the chair exactly one hour and charged
1150.00 dollars. I then had to go to a regular dentist after
two weeks to get a permanent filling, another 75.00 dollats.
Had I needed a new crown that would have costed me
another 1200.00 dollars.
When inquiring about a deep cleaning, I was quoted
276.00 for the exam and 218 per quad, meaning
the total cost would be $1148.00.
I have shopped around and gotton a few lower prices,
but none to jump for joy about, It's discusting.
We'll I hope things change for you up there, wish me
Luck down here.
